I have tried to write this entry in different ways, but I have so much that I want to say and it just wasn't coming out the way I wanted to say it. I hope this turns out better.
Thursday - Halloween
I read northing's entry, "I think it would be really cool tonight, to have some friends over to my place to pile on the couch and watch the Oingo Boingo Halloween concert on the wide screen, while consuming mass quantities of pizza and neffarious beverages. Anyone?," and I figured what the heck. It sounds like fun.
I love doing spontaneous things. I have found that most of the time they turn out to be the best experiences of my life. It seems that when I plan something, some of the excitement is lost. There is a special thrill I get in having no idea what to expect next. I decided to throw caution into the wind and drive up to Monterey to meet northing for the first time.
northing and I made arrangements for me to come up. He called me on my cell phone and he gave me instructions because my email was running slow. It was a little after 2:00 PM and I needed to hurry to see my doctor. The email finally came in while we were still talking, so I printed it out and was going to read it while waiting in the waiting room.
I flew down Interstate 5 to get to my doctor's appointment at 2:30 PM. I couldn't leave until that was over. As I walked into the building, Dr. Fik was walking down the hall and motioned me to come on back to his office. I didn't have a chance to read the email. Dr. Fik didn't want to change my medication until I was sure the sexual side effects had returned. Well, I wasn't too happy, but I agreed to stay on the same medication and see if the sexual side effects would come back. I was in and out of there pretty quickly and dashed home to pack for the trip up north.
I packed my clothes and "stuff" into a bag and set the house up so my mom could get to everything while I was gone. I jumped in my truck and started off. But first I had to stop at Wal-Mart and pick up a bag of socks since I didn't have any white socks left that were clean.
It was 4:00 PM when I hit I-5 and headed north. My truck did not like the Grapevine at all. I had to keep downshifting into 3rd gear to get enough power to accelerate up the grade. I also realized that I needed to stop for gas and something to eat. I hadn't eaten since breakfast. On the other side of the Grapevine I stopped for gas and got something to eat.
I was back on the interstate once again and headed north. I wasn't paying attention and I missed the turn off to stay on I-5 and started up the 99. It took a couple of miles before I could turn around and head back in the right direction.
It began to get dark and I could no longer see my instructions, so I reached into the glove box and pulled out my flashlight. I turned it on and found out the batteries were dead. My dome light had burnt out a couple of months ago and I never replaced the bulb, so I had to lift the instruction sheet and read it while the headlights behind me shown through the back window.
I only had one more mix up and passed my turn off, but I called northing and he talked me through getting back on the right road.
I arrived at his place around 9:00 PM and I called to let him know I was there. He came outside and I parked the truck. He was different than I expected. I still can't put my finger on what is different about him, but that's something to figure out another time.
I put my bags in the back room and we sat down and talked while drinking some beer. It has been over 6 months since I've had anything to drink and the beer tasted sooo good. My doctor would lecture me on drinking alcohol while on medication if he knew, but I didn't care about that right then.
As we were talking mooflyfoof showed up with some hard cider. I have now met two people from LJ on the same day. We all started talking and northing (okay I'm getting tired of typing that) put in the Oingo Boingo DVD.
After a couple of minutes Kyle pulled the pizza out of the oven and we all had some. It was garlic chicken pizza and it was delicious. Pizza, beer, good music, and great company, who could ask for anything more?
After watching the Oingo Boingo concert, Kyle brought out some pictures of what he did last Halloween. He climbed the highest mountain in Mexico. The pictures were beautiful, but I don't think I'd want to do something like that. I love camping and small hikes, but big climbs are a little beyond me. I admire those who can do something like that.
After some conversation and seeing the pictures, mooflyfoof said her goodbyes and went home. Kyle and I talked for a while longer--actually I kept talking and keeping him up--and he asked me where I wanted to sleep. He said, "You can sleep on the couch or you can sleep on the futon with me. But if you sleep on the futon you have to behave yourself and you will need to get up when I get up." I took the couch.
The couch was very comfortable. I had no trouble falling asleep. Before I fell asleep I could hear seals barking outside. I thought that was pretty cool. I only get to hear coyotes at night where I live.
